About Us

FREED, an NGO was established in 2007, to bring about a perceptible change in the world of our underprivileged citizens. It comprises of voluntary team of engineers, academicians, entrepreneurs, civil servants, media professionals and others with a common passion directed towards improving the living conditions of at least some of these people within its limited capacity.

FREED – "The Force for Rural Empowerment and Economic Development" is a non-governmental (NGO), non-profit social enterprise established with the intent to undertake projects that will :

  • address critical problems in fundamental areas of education, livelihood and health of un- or under-privileged community folks(specially in rural areas)
  • by integrating with competent organizations at local, national and global levels and by application of advances in relevant technologies and solutions at grass-root levels.
  • cause, as a result, their sustainable economic, social and moral development and empowerment, with,
  • substantial positive, national and global environmental impact, with,
  • measurable output in each of the above areas, and with,
  • global replication ability

Success Stories

2010

  • FREED was selected for the (Global Social Benefit Incubator) GSBI 2010 enterprise building program for its Replicable "Jatropha Cultivation for Bio-diesel Production" Project. Somnath Pyne, Secretary of FREED attended the program at the Santa Clara University from August 12 till August 28, 2010.
  • Apu comes from a remote village in West Bengal, India. She belongs to a below poverty line backward class family. She a is a first generation learner. FREED, through the TOORNI project, has sponsored her graduate studies where she has secured First Class grade. Now she is pursuing her post graduate studies in Calcutta University
  • Honb'le Minister in Charge of Higher Education, Govt. of West Bengal Shri Bratya Basu felicitates Jayashree and Shilpi, the two girls from remote villages of Bankura District who are being handheld by FREED, the NGO, to further their education and career.

2011

  • Started Project Borogora. It is an attempt to create a model self sustaining village from focusing on renewable energy, rain water harvesting and sustainable livelihood generation. FREED launched the first phase on 5th November Cookers to the villagers, which will be followed by a basic health check, drinking water and distribution of garments for the children. health camp conducted by Dr. Saurav Sarkar and Dr. Animesh Ghosh.
  • FREED is also working towards creating an awareness about this issue by focusing on this social problem from different angles, relating it to the basic issues of the socio vis-à-vis cultural position of women education, health, employment, legal rights and empowerment. A seminar on this issue was conducted on 10th August 2011 at the American Center and was widely reported in various newspapers of Kolkata.

Freed accept donation  from companies, and government..But We depend on the donations of our supporters to carry on our campaignsand projects.so, be with us And support FREED .

Positive Water Balance

saving excess rain water in local abandoned and dry water bodies to resuscitate them as well as increasing the round water level gradually

Summary:
 
Freed considering more than 25 no. of  abandoned and dry ponds of ward no. 94 and 95 for rain water harvesting in south Kolkata. Freed has decided to the condition some abandoned ponds in the city to execute the project. In which surpassing rain water can be reserved in the pond for future use. This project will enhance the  possibilities of using those ponds as fisheries leads to betterment of means of subsistence of some local people. The project also will reduce the future scarcity of water.
 
Proposal:
 
The considered ponds will be connected to local drainage system through which excess rain water will passed out and stored in the ponds. Freed has sketched out a plan to store the accumulated rain water of the roof in the underground reservoir and finally the water will be stored in the ponds. A project of plantation surrounding onds has been proposed to build up an eco-friendly environment...

Borogora, a village deep inside the Purulia district of West Bengal comprises of 14 families nestled in the lap of the picturesque Ayodhya Hills has no food, no education, no medical facility, no power, no sustainable livelihood and probably as of now, no hope.

And in other half of seminar focus on focus on the views, plans, ideas and proposals of the government arms, the financial institutes who can extend micro-credit, the NGOs who can create awareness and help in logistics and the corporate enterprises involved in production of solar items.
